When does the insulation installation process start?
Once we finish with your addition’s electrical, plumbing, AV wiring, and HVAC work (and the necessary inspections are done), we can start installing insulation.
Why is insulation important?
Insulation helps keep your home comfortable. So, during the cold months, it’ll keep warm air in and cold air out. And in the warmer months, it’ll keep cold air in and warm air out. It also provides a measure of soundproofing.
How do you decide what type of insulation is best for my addition?
The thickness of the wood used in a particular area determines the thickness of your insulation.
So, on your exterior walls and roof, which has thick wood, we’ll use thicker insulation (i.e., insulation with a higher R-value). This helps keep warm or cold air in or out of your house.
We also take cost into account. Spray foam is typically best, because it minimizes your air leakage, but it’s expensive.
Will the type of insulation you use make a difference in my utility bills?
Yes. If you use an insulation with a low R-value (i.e., thinner), it will increase your utility bills. Spray foam will definitely save you the most money in this regard.
But if your contractor has a good crew and works with good inspectors to ensure the insulation was properly installed, it should save you money.

Are there any decisions I need to make when it comes to the insulation process?
You’ll need to determine how much you want to spend.
The premium option is spray foam, which seals better, blocks out more noise, and does better at keeping moisture out (which prevents the risk of structural damage). But it costs more than most other insulation materials.
You can also use foam board (which is thin) if you have a basement and want to maximize your square footage.
How long does it typically take to install the insulation?
This depends on how big your addition is, but it’s often only two or three days.
