As remodeling experts in central AL, we’re really careful about choosing the right basement fixtures for our clients (and correctly installing them). In this post, we’re answering some questions you may have about this part of the basement remodeling process, so you can know what to expect if you use our services.
And so you know, what we’re about to discuss comes directly from our team. This post was written by a person, and it comes from our team members’ actual experience as professional remodelers in the Birmingham area.
How can the right fixtures make my basement feel brighter, more comfortable, and more functional?
The accessories and fittings are the finishing touch to any remodel and can make any room really “pop” (especially your basement).
We can help you find fixtures that fit within your budget, but this is an area where you really do get what you pay for.
That’s why we’re really careful about the types of fixtures we recommend. Because we want you to really get the most out of your basement for years to come.
What factors do you consider when recommending and installing my basement fixtures?
Before recommending and installing basement fixtures we want to know if it’s:
- American made
- High quality
- Proven to be reliable
We never recommend anything we wouldn’t use in our own homes, which is why we take these factors into consideration.
How do you help me choose fixtures that match the style of the rest of my home?
First, we’ll listen to you and figure out what you want. If you have examples to show us, we’d love to see them.
If you already know what you want, we will work with you to find those fixtures. And we’ll get as close a match as possible, depending on the availability.
But if you’re not sure of what you want (i.e., you’d like your basement to have its own style), we’re happy to talk through that with you and offer suggestions.
What should I consider when selecting plumbing fixtures for my basement’s bathroom or wet bar?
We always prefer to use American-made plumbing fixtures such as Delta. This is because we want to make sure everything is up to code and works well.
We’re hesitant to get fixtures from Amazon, Temu, and Wish, because sometimes products from these places are not compatible with US plumbing fittings. Plus, they may not meet US Code requirements.
What types of lighting fixtures work best in my basement?
Due to the lack of natural light in most basements, lighting is a critical factor. It is very easy to have too little light, making your freshly remodeled basement feel gloomy.
Modern LED can-lights are relatively inexpensive and most are dimmable with variable levels of light warmth. These are often ideal for your primary lighting.
Typically, we can install any of the same lighting fixtures and fittings that would be installed in any other part of your home. There is normally not a need for anything different for your basement.
Anything else I should know?
A lot of new builds have basement plumbing already “stubbed-out” and if you are maintaining the originally planned footprint, often no major changes are required.
Even if you want to adjust the footprint, it is not an overly complicated task.
However, some old homes do not have any below-grade plumbing (i.e., all the plumbing is located above ground level). But this is not a show shopper.
We can install a sewer grinder pump system. This consists of a tank, pump assembly, valves, electrical, level controls, and piping. It collects all your home’s wastewater, grinds it up, and pumps it through a little pipe to the street’s sewer main.
Wrapping Up
To reiterate: We won’t recommend fixtures that we wouldn’t use in our own homes. That’s why we focus on reliable, American-made products. And since we’ve been doing this a while, we know the best products to recommend.
